Although plastic film can enhance agricultural productivity, it also raises environmental concerns. But now new advances in biodegradable films are helping turn the tide on these problems. Through research, this report determines how different kinds of materials in buried plastic films are released into the soil and degraded. The results show that the rate is affected not only by temperature and flooding but also whether others exist nearby weather these additives are present as neat substances or complex mixtures with other chemicals some properties of films themselves or their constitutive components (additives). As this research shows, the potential exists for plastic film in agriculture to go one step further now that biodegradable films have been developed.
